Laura Brown | Outspoken Speakers

We’re thrilled to announce that fashion journalist and media personality Laura Brown is joining our diverse roster at Outspoken! Laura is the former editor-in-chief at InStyle magazine. Prior to her work there, she was Features, Special Projects, and Executive Director of Harper’s Bazaar, where she produced over 100 covers and worked for 11 years after moving to New York in 2001.

Business of Fashion noted that Laura is “known for her down-to-earth perspective and sense of humor” and “embraced social media and the power of video to engage audiences of millions with candid celebrity interviews and fantastical editorial shoots.”

Laura Brown featured in NBC’s “Women Making a Difference”

As editor-in-chief of InStyle magazine, Laura reinvented InStyle with an emboldened focus on diversity and activism. She led the publication to become the first American magazine to ban shooting fur and to commit to dedicating 15 percent of its shelf space to black-owned brands. She also launched Badass Women series and featured activists on InStyle covers, including AdWeek's Hottest Cover of the Year in 2021. Although the print edition ultimately folded, InStyle was one of the only glossy magazines during the pandemic to continue to publish monthly.

She is also on the board of many social causes, including Fashion Trust U.S., a new nonprofit that supports the up-and-coming generation of designers.

With her decades of media experience, Laura shares her expansive expertise in journalism and storytelling and unique experiences with some of the most impressive celebrities, icons and activists with her audiences—ideal for topics around women in leadership, media and communication, social activism, and authenticity. Laura also hosts and moderates events in the most intimate settings and on the largest stages with candid humor (and lots of fun!) for an unforgettable experience.
