Meet Tina
Tina Sharkey coined the term social media. She has spent thirty years building what it actually means.
A founder, operator, educator, and board director, Tina has created and scaled some of the most consequential platforms at the intersection of technology and human connection. She co-founded iVillage, one of the first online communities for women, and Brandless, a direct-to-consumer company that reached a $100 million run rate in its first two years. She led BabyCenter to reach 80 percent of US families with newborns, ran AOL Networks at its defining moment of transition, and brought Sesame Street online for the first time.
Now she is asking the question underneath all of that work. Not just how we build with technology, but what we protect from it. What makes us irreplaceable. What the machines will never have.
As faculty at the USC Iovine and Young Academy, she co-founded Innovation Quest and serves as Principal Investigator on Generative AI research grants. She writes Sparks with Soul, a Substack essay series exploring the fortifications that keep us human in the age of machines. She serves on the board of PBS and advises founders and executives navigating the moments that matter most.
Tina has inspired audiences on global stages from the Wall Street Journal Digital Conference to the Milken Institute to TEDx Hollywood. She is known for her warmth, her humor, and her rare ability to make the complex feel urgent and the urgent feel actionable.
On the Substack: Sparks with Soul is where you will find Humanity Is the Moat, Choose Love, Our Cache Is Our Wisdom - new essays that are personal, specific, deeply human written by Tina.

A Framework for Leading with What Machines Will Never Have
The leaders who will win the next decade are not the ones who resist AI or the ones who surrender to it. They are the ones who know what to bring to the machine and what to protect from it. With thirty years of building companies at the intersection of technology and human connection, Tina Sharkey has developed a framework for the one competitive advantage no algorithm can replicate: the irreducibly human qualities that make us worth following, worth trusting, and worth building with.
This talk maps the fortifications that make us irreplaceable. Love. Wisdom. Joy. Community. Consciousness. And it answers the leadership question nobody else is asking: not just how do we survive AI, but how do we dance with it. How do we lead hybrid teams of humans and agents. How do we stay the author of the work when the tools are this powerful.
Drawing from neuroscience, anthropology, and three decades of building brands and businesses that put humans at the center, Tina delivers a framework that is equal parts philosophy and playbook. Audiences leave not just inspired but equipped to lead with the one thing the machines will never have.
Key Takeaways
Why the moat around your organization is not your technology, your data, or your IP. It is your people and the irreducibly human qualities they bring.

How to lead hybrid teams of humans and agents without losing the culture, the judgment, or the soul of the work.
