Outspoken Turns 5! Here's a note to our clients.

Did you know that, by tradition, wood is gifted to couples for their fifth anniversary? I’m sure we all would have liked to knock on some wood before the pandemic struck down on the events industry in March 2020. Wowza! That was something, wasn’t it?

And, unfortunately, it’s still not over. We know because, even today, some of you are faced with either having to cancel an event last minute or having to pivot to virtual. But we are starting to see the light at the end of this seemingly never-ending tunnel, and we hope that you are too.

As we look back on the last five years, and especially these last 18 months, as a business in an industry we hold so dear, we want to say with the utmost sincerity: THANK YOU. Thank you for your resilience, your tenacity, your professionalism, your flexibility and especially for putting your confidence in us to partner with you, both during these uncertain times and beyond it.

We wouldn’t have made it to our fifth anniversary without you. We challenged ourselves in 2016 to build an agency that looked and acted differently than what we had been witnessing in the industry, and we hoped we’d gain support in doing so. Your business and your continued support show that more of this is needed—more diversity, more equity, more inclusion, more balanced representation on stages and on screens. Let’s keep being outspoken and sharing diverse ideas with your audience. We look forward to our next five years of working together with your organization, however turbulent the waters may be. Looks like we can get through pretty much anything together! But, we think we all deserve some smooth sailing for at least a little while, right? Cheers to that, and the next five years.

Fun Facts about Outspoken:

  1. Did you know Outspoken wasn’t our first registered company name? We originally registered our business as The Coterie Agency, and boy was that a mistake! First of all, no one knew how to pronounce it and they especially didn’t know what the word meant. Our elitist wordsmith-ery backfired and we knew Outspoken was just more real and more us!

  2. We’ve always been remote! Although we founded our business in NYC, we’re pros at collaborating remotely with each other pre-pandemic. Caitie, Tori and Chelsea are based in NYC, Tara and Devin are in Halifax (we’re international, y’all!), Dave is in Cambridge, MA, and Sandy is right across the Hudson River in NJ.

  3. Caitie, Tara, Tori, Dave and Sandy all met at another agency. Though that agency no longer exists, we have a tight bond from our experiences there and everyone is essentially doing their same jobs.
